Phrase verbs
Trong tiếng anh có những động từ mà khi theo sau là giới từ thì sẽ đổi nghĩa. Các động từ loại này được gọi là Phrasal Verbs
Phrasal Verbs là những động từ gồm 2, hoặc có khi 3 từ. Từ đầu là 1 verb và được theo sau bởi 1 adv (turn down) hoặc 1 preposition (eat into) hoặc cả 2 (put up with). Những adverbs và prepositions này đôi khi được gọi là particles.
Nghĩa của Phrasal Verbs
* _He sat down on the bed.
Nghĩa của 1 số phrasal verbs như là sit down thì có thể đoán 1 cách dễ dàng vì cả verb và particle đều giữ nguyên nghĩa gốc của nó (sit : ngồi, down : xuống; sit down : ngồi xuống)
Tuy nhiên, 1 số phrasal verbs có nghĩa đặc biệt mà bạn phải học mới biết. Ví dụ, nghĩa riêng của từng chữ put, up và with không mang chút í nghĩa gì của put up with
* Một vài particles có những í nghĩa giống nhau khi chúng được đi kèm với những verbs khác nhau.
- give up = quit
- sit down = ngồi xuống
- stand up = đứng lên
- put off = postpone (hoãn lại)
Ex: Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
- take off = cởi đồ, cất cánh
- put on = mặc đồ
- go on = continue
- come over = visit
- see sb off = tiễn
- come across = chợt nghĩ ra, chợt tìm thấy
- set up = establish
- give s.t away : biếu cho tặng
- push in : chen lấn
- get on well with: trở nên thân wen với
- come down with:mắc bệnh
- come across:gây ấn tượng, tình cờ gặp
- put up with: chịu đựng
- charge...with: kết tội
- fed up with: chán
- approve of: tán thành
- rely on: trông cậy vào
- give up:từ bỏ- take up:take control of
- take on :đảm nhận
